Kazakhstan International Adoption Program*

Kazakhstan sits in central, with China and Russia its neighbors to the north and east respectively. This nation was once part of the USSR until gaining its independence in 1991. Kazakhstan contains major deserts and grassy plains and the climate brings hot summers and cold winters. One of the most urbanized nations in Central Asia, the population of almost 17 million consists mainly of Kazakhs and Russians..

Children of either sex from the age of 12 months of age and older are available for adoption. Children from Kazakhstan are ethnically diverse, though they tend to be mostly of Asian descent. One can adopt Russians who are brunettes or blonds with either blue or brown eyes. In total, the children are generally in good health, but some may have developmental delays due to orphanage living.

Both married couples and single females are eligible to adopt from Kazakhstan. Prospective adoptive parents should be between 25-45 years of age. Families who have children in the home may also apply for adoption. The adopting parent(s) are required to make two trips to Kazakhstan. If married, both parents must travel on the first trip. One parent may travel on the second. The first trip lasts three weeks business days. Only one parent is required to return for the second trip, which lasts approximately a week and a half. You travel to Kazakhstan six-eight weeks after accepting an assignment of a child.

The adoption process takes approximately six months from the time the completed documents, translated with BCIS approval, go into the Kazakhstan legal system.
