Ukraine International Adoption Program

Ukraine, a proud nation of 50 million people, sits at the center of Eastern Europe along the southwestern border of Russia.  The capital city of Kiev presents rich Ukrainian architecture, a tribute to the deep religious and cultural tradition.  Over 3/4 of the population is of Ukrainian decent, with the largest minority of Russian heritage.  Geographically, Ukraine offers rolling, wooded hills and waterways throughout the country, supporting a large agricultural base.

Both girls and boys are available for adoption at one year of age in the Ukrainian international adoption program. The children are in good health, although some may have developmental delays due to orphanage living.

Both married couples and single people are eligible to adopt children from Ukraine and there are no age restrictions to adopt. Parents planning to adopt a Ukrainian child do not receive a child assignment before traveling to the Ukraine.  Permission to travel to the Ukraine comes 2-3 months after acceptance of the completed documents and clearance by Immigration & Naturalization Service (INS). While in Ukraine, adoptive parents go directly to the Central Registry to review children available for adoption. Upon finding a child to adopt, the adoptive parents and a guide will visit the child in an orphanage. If, for some reason, the child is not suitable to the family, they continue to meet other children until the right child is found. In general, the stay in Ukraine lasts approximately 2-3 weeks, to finalize the adoption process.
